MEDITATION

A few weeks into treatment I looked for healthy outlets. I came across the calendar at Overlook Medical Center and showed up at their Mindful Meditation class. The facilitator, Michele, has a soothing voice and a calm demeanor. During class I had hot flashes and sobbed from stress and fear; the people in the group comforted me. It felt amazing to be with people that could relate to what I am going through; they had sad eyes because they understood, not because they pitied me. Hooked, I've been attending regularly and have developed friendships. Metta meditation, loving-kindness meditation, is my favorite. During, we say "May I be happy. May I be well. May I be safe. May I be peaceful and at ease." After directing the mediation to ourselves, we turn the meditation to others we love, then to people not as close to us, and finally to those we have difficulties with. Once the cycle is complete, I feel enlightened. I meditate to lift my feelings from my self, clear my thoughts and focus on my breath: "Breathing in, I breath in. Breathing out, I breath out."
