TWIST OUT CANCER: BRUSHES WITH CANCER 2017 EXHIBITION, GALA AND AUCTION

  • Revel Fulton Market

Brushes with Cancer strategically matches artists with those touched by cancer to create unique pieces of artwork reflective of their journey. Over a period of 6 months, over fifty selected pairs will connect in person, online, on the phone or by email. Their relationships are guided and supported by Twist Out Cancer mentors with the intention of creating a support system for both the artist and inspiration. The program finishes on a high note with our signature celebratory art exhibition and gala where the artwork is revealed for the fist time. Register today to secure your spot! We cannot wait to celebrate with you!

AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF CANCER RESEARCH ANNUAL MEETING 2017: PANELIST

  • Washington Convention Center

The Potential Impact on Cancer Patients of a Repeal or Revision of the Affordable Care Act: one of the sessions at The American Association of Cancer Research's Annual Meeting 2017, where I'll be a panelist.

The Administration and Republican lawmakers have said that dismantling the Affordable Care Act (ACA) is a top priority in 2017. The ACA, which was signed into law in 2010 and implemented over the subsequent six years, has provided major benefits for cancer patients. These include: prohibiting denial of insurance coverage for those who have cancers (the “pre-existing conditions” stipulation); coverage of preventive services for colorectal, breast, cervical and lung cancer screenings and skin cancer counseling; removal of annual and lifetime dollar coverage caps; and the mandate for insurance to cover participation in clinical trials.

This session will bring together patients, physician scientists, and healthcare researchers to provide first-hand evidence why any replacement of the ACA should address and ameliorate impacts on cancer patients, survivors, and those at risk, including quality and cost of care. This session will discuss some of the specific provisions in the ACA that are benefiting cancer patients, such as: ensuring that individuals are covered for pre-existing conditions; access is provided to preventive services; annual and lifetime coverage caps are prohibited; and access to clinical trials is encouraged.
