The Montclair Times published my letter to the editor on March 24, 2016: "Giving back is always in style."
Be fashionable and participate or donate to Mary’s Place by the Sea’s 5th Annual Walk-a-Thon. A nurturing home in Ocean Grove, N.J., Mary’s Place provides a safe, comfortable environment for women with cancer to heal in mind, body and spirit. The nonprofit offers integrative services that complement medical treatment: oncology massages, nutrition education, individual psychotherapy, Reiki, guided meditation and yoga. Since it opened its doors in 2009, Mary’s Place by the Sea has gone from a two- to four- to a brand new nine-bedroom handicap accessible house complete with a teaching kitchen and spa.
Navigating my way through my triple-negative breast cancer treatment the past year and a half, I’ve been fortunate enough to find respite in such a relaxing and caring atmosphere. A frequent day and overnight guest, on numerous occasions I’ve received complimentary services: professional relaxing massages, Reiki, guided visualization, nutrition counseling, yoga and prayer, all scheduled between organic meals and long walks on the Jersey boardwalk. Volunteers abound, they won’t let you lift a hand. Many tears are shed and tips shared around the dining room table; I’ve made some close friends that both work at and frequent Mary’s Place.
As a Montclair native and resident, I hope that you’ll find it in your heart and wallet to give to this loving organization that’s helped 5,000 females so far stricken with cancer by visiting my CrowdRise page before May 21st. It takes a village, and hopefully you will extend a hand.
